Hi Milan, have you tried using Personas for that?

Hi Nik, each culture edit now has its own staging task, it is not aggregated within one task for all culture versions of the given page and never has been like that.

Are you referring to some specific scenario where you observe it differently?

AdminMartin Hejtmanek (Chief Technical Officer, Kentico) commented  ·

Hi James, it seems more reasonable now, I think we can provide it in the next version after v8 (we now have other priorities to v8)

Hi, what is the reason to publish to production content only for one specific language? Can you describe the specific overall process you are using in more details? Doesn't it make more sense to publish everything consistent to a certain point-in-time, so that the production content is consistent in all languages?

AdminMartin Hejtmanek (Chief Technical Officer, Kentico) commented  ·

Sure, that makes sense. It is not an easy task to do, so let's see how many votes this gets.

AdminMartin Hejtmanek (Chief Technical Officer, Kentico) commented  ·

Hi, could you please describe the particular scenario where you would use this functionality? Isn't it better to use workflow to say which version of the document is ready for publishing o production and which still needs to be approved first? Or am I missing something?

If you vote for this, could you please also list specific items you wouldn't like to see in the installation, including sample sites that you think are too outdated and you are never using them? Thank you!

    Hi,

Have you considered native encryption at the SQL Server?

    See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHmz5q0YtD8

    Would that work for you?

    Hi Oleg,

    Not sure right now. Try it and if not, you can always wrap it in explicit {% ResolveMacros(...) %}

AdminMartin Hejtmanek (Chief Technical Officer, Kentico) commented  ·

    Hi Daren,

You should be able to use macro such as {% GlobalObjects.EmailTemplates["MyHeader"] %} to inject content from another e-mail template where you could store the header / footer as centralized.

I absolutely see the requirement as meainingful, just not as a priority for now, given such "nice" workaround available. Let's see how many votes this gets.

    Hi Richard,

We are now developing it only for MVC, but technically it may work also for WebForms as it is leveraging the standard model. We will either test it within regular dev cycle or I may try it and write some article about it if it is possible.

Cannot guarantee that right now though.

Can you guys tell us more about what particular scenarios right now you need to cover?

AdminMartin Hejtmanek (Chief Technical Officer, Kentico) commented  ·

    Hi Jonathan,

We are working on this as part of our MVC initiatives so it should be covered in v10 if we are successful and based on the ability to provide it in v9 MVC project maybe also sooner. Keep an eye on https://github.com/Kentico/Mvc

I see, so you need a way to restore a certain point of time in the history.

Then I have additional question, after you fix the problems, you would need to re-synchronize all the changes again.

This makes me think of two necessary changes that would allow this:

    1) Archiving staging tasks, and being able to re-run them
    2) Integrate staging with the automatic database backup, or an option to rollback objects from their history to a certain point of time

One way or another, this seems quite complex to implement, so let's see how many votes it gets and we will prioritize accordingly

    Thank you for your input!

AdminMartin Hejtmanek (Chief Technical Officer, Kentico) commented  ·

    Hi,

If you enable object versioning on the target server, you will be able to rollback changes there. Does that work for you?

We currently have On-site editing to allow editing of some basic things, but in longer-term we plan to improve current admin UI to provide better mobile / responsive experience as well.

We would like that, we just need to see how much is this wanted to make sure we prioritize accordingly. Are there other file system locations that you see as important for staging? Or does it make sense to allow admin to define the list of folders to synchronize?

Hi, we plan this functionality, however we currently do not have it in our priorities. If it gets more votes, we can reconsider.

We plan to add an option to always use the default value from general web part settings.

AdminMartin Hejtmanek (Chief Technical Officer, Kentico) commented  ·

Got the message and I like it, no promises yet, but I will try to push it to version 7 ;-)

AdminMartin Hejtmanek (Chief Technical Officer, Kentico) commented  ·

What we plan is to allow for "real default values" which means that you will be able to set that particular web part property should always use the value from the web part settings in site manager. This is little different from what you need because it covers only specific properties that you will set this way and is not in current version.

What you can do to achieve what you need is to define a page template, where you put your preconfigured web parts, and then in the place you want them you use the Page placeholder web part with the Default template property set to this template, and you basically inject this template to another. Doing this on several templates will provide you with centralized control over particular template section.

We would like to have this enabled in some nicer wat, but we didn't yet figure out how the UI for it and the configuration process should work, so if anyone has idea or can give us sketches for how you feel it would be intuitive enough, send it to us, we will appreciate it.

    Hi Phil,

Impersonation in 6.0 is the same as "Log in as this user", just taken to the header. We are further working on concept how to "virtualize" the context of particular requests, so previewing could actually be able in 7.0.

Hi Bruynr. In 6.0 the inline controls will be obsolete and completely replaced by inline widgets, which will allow this and much more. It didn't make sense to create inline control that we would drop right away.
