Kentico Product Ideas

Welcome to the community site for sharing and discussing your ideas for Kentico, the integrated marketing solution.

Help us better understand your needs so that we can deliver a product you love. It’s easy!
Simply share your ideas, comment on the ideas of others and vote for those you want to see happen in Kentico.

If you could add something to Kentico, what would it be and why?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Automatically generate MVC View/Controller/Repository boilerplate

Currently, Kentico will allow automatic generation of the Model based on page types.
However, in order to match Kentico's existing structure, you also have to add a View, a Controller, and an Interface and implementation class for the Repository (The latter not strictly necessary, but it is if you want to match Kentico's internal classes' structure.)
Obviously the View and Controller will need to be customized, but a lot of it (the files themselves, the class definitions and using statements, the constructors for the Controller, etc) are going to be boilerplate.
Ideally, this would be via something like a zip…

      • Select language when adding a link to our newsletter.

        Fix this situation

        Description:
Situation: a multi-language website (FR - EN - NL) and communication that is sent in both French and Dutch through the Kentico EMS.

In our pages application we mostly set our culture to NL (default).
When turning to the email marketing application and setting up a new email campaign in French, I come across this inconvenience: when I try to insert a link to one of our pages, I see only the pages in Dutch. Quit inconvenient while completing a French email.

The only way I can solve this write now is by opening the pages…

        • Copy product document together with SKU data and product option categories cross multiple sites

I would like to copy a product document together with it's connected SKU data and all applied product categories across multiple sites.

Currently this is not possible (maybe it is now in 12)...

In Kentico 11 I can only copy the product. The SKU data is missing after coping the document. This requires to edit almost anything in the new document again - which makes it senseless to copy...

          • Don't set height via style in image editor

When resizing an image in the image editor set the height and width properties as attributes not with the style tag. when you set the height and width it makes it difficult to make the image resize automatically with the browser.

            • attributes

Form fields could use a flexible "additional attributes" field, which would allow users to add whatever attributes they'd like. Following a syntax like the style attribute, a user could add this, for example: "placeholder:Email Address;", and then your server-side code could split and parse the name/value pair into the input field.

              • email priority

Kentico adds to email from email marketing this properties:
                X-Priority: 5
                Priority: non-urgent
                Importance: low

But I can not influence it. Please, add settings for it.

                • Ability to seperate email based on type to different SMTP servers

Sending all mail generated from Kentico through the same (set of) SMTP server(s) is a bad idea. Why? If marketing emails result in service being throttled by the SMTP service (it happens), it also slows down delivery of transactional email.

Perhaps this could be set up to send to different sub-domains e.g. mktg.example.com & store.example.com.

Or email templates have a tag that is used for determining which service they get forward to.

Either way, this can help to seperate not only issues when they arise, but also reporting etc.

If Kentico is serious about email marketing, I think this is…

                  • Add WebP support to the ImageHelper class

When creating image variants, it would be great if we could also convert images to WebP.

While WebP isn't universally supported, the <picture> tag could be used to offer it as an option to browsers that do support it, reducing page load.

                      • Search the entire Media Library and all sub-folders

Is there a way to do a Global search in Media Library?
I.e. when at the root folder, do a search that will find all the images in all subfolders?
e.g. If I want to find all the "achill" images that are in the Media Library and I go to the root folder and search for "achill" -> no images are found
I need to search each folder individually, so if I go to the sub-folder and search for "achill" => I find all the "achill" images in the folder
Searching the entire Media Library and all subfolders

                        • HTML editable text input window in the form tab should be resizeable and responsive

There is not the possibility to make the input field for the HTML editable text resizeable. It looks out-of-date on the new screens with high resolution.

                          • Allow multiple category selection in listing and datasource webparts

When using a repeater webpart for instance you can only select 1 category. Same is true if you use a documents datasource or a hierarchical viewer webpart. The API allows you to pass in multiple categories when doing a document or object query but we do not have this same ability to do so with any of the out of the box controls.

I come across this use case in roughly every other site build. Unfortunately, it isn't available so we end up performing a no-so-fantastic work around by using the API to get what is needed vs. using OOTB…

                            • Kentico MVC - More control over URL Pattern for Content Only Page Types

Currently, Content Only Page Types have a single URL Pattern field that is intended to somewhat connect the URL route of a page to the content tree. However, it seems to be limited to just a few simple macros like NodeAliasPath and DocumentCulture for simple URL paths this works. However for advanced URLs it does not cut it.

I would love it if, at the very least, we could execute custom Macros in this property to craft more complex URLs (they currently don't work here based on my testing K10). Or maybe there needs to be some other mechanism to…

                              • Allow Editor Stylesheet to link to an external file

The Css editor for stylesheets is very limited as an editor. As a result, we keep our editor-styles.less with our other .less files and compile it ourselves.

Then, I need to open the Kentico CMS and copy the contents of editor-styles.css into the Kentico Editor and save there. Then go back and check the changes.

It would be great if we could link to an existing file like we can for webpart files for example.

                                • OpenID Connect Support

While Kentico does support OpenID, "OpenID Connect" performs many of the same tasks but does so in a way that is standardized and API-friendly.

We have centralized authentication across numerous sites (both internal and external) using OpenID Connect and our Kentico site is the one lone holdout due to lack of support.

                                    • Bulk upload of files into content tree

We had a client who wanted to assign per-file and per-folder permissions in their site. Initially we tried to use media galleries, but permissions on those can only be assigned at the gallery (root folder) level.

As a work-around, we looked at using the content tree, but the inability to upload files in bulk was a deal breaker there. We ended up solving the problem by using multiple media libraries and just organizing the documents in a way where we could assign permissions by library.

It would be great if you guys could allow files to be bulk-uploaded to the…

                                      • Allow "content only" pages to be converted to standard pages and vice versa

During development we made a decision to create certain page types as "Content Only" pages.

Unfortunately, later in development a decision was made to include a detail pages for these page types and therefore they need to be changed to standard page types.

Please add the ability to convert between the two types, otherwise the "risk/reward" balance means there is little point in using "content only" page types.

                                        • Remove Tilde from URLs for MVC

Currently, when you create an HTML field in Kentico and then render it into a view on an MVC site, it appends a tilde (~) to the start of any relative URL path.

This causes links to break and according to Kentico Support this is the expected behavior.

It seems like there should be an option to remove the tilde.

This is in reference to Support Ticket #0094000107.
