  1. Use dependency injection (DI) in the API/code to allow for better testability.

It is difficult to test customized code, especially the e-commerce providers, without DI because it requires the testing code to be running the entire site with full database state. It is only possible to test in isolation by creating lots of mocks and stubs which reverse engineering the necessary calls based on what is being tested.

    • Save & Publish button

When editing content in CMSdesk there is a Save button and a Publish button. It would be useful to add a button that combines both of these, e.g. "Save & Publish".

      • Create "pre-configured web parts"

It would be nice to have an area of the CMSDesk where we could create "pre-configured" web parts. I find that I need to show the same data on multiple pages... and I have to configure the same web part multiple times.

Page inheritance does not always work. Nor does cloning a web part and setting default values (as suggested in the documentation).

Let me explain: I have a web part being used in 15 different page templates. I needed to change the OrderBy value and had to do so for all 15 web parts individually.

        It would be nice…

        • Email Templates header and footer.

Have the ability to have global headers and footers in email templates. It is a boring job to theme EVERY email on a social site ;-)

          • Infinite scrolling

Instead of a ordinary pager, provide an option to asynchronously load more items when a user scrolls to the bottom of the page - aka. infitine scrolling. I would also like an option to limit how many times it should load the data(make it finite). It would be also helpful If the URL address changes during the async load(HTML5 History API), so a I can send the address to somebody and he/she views the same content as I.

            • improved rating and support / voting system

allow rating of items (pictures, video, blogs, text, ...) based on various definable categories (e.g. technical quality, artistic quality, humor, ...). allow support for expressed opinions, much like here.

              • Tax calculations per ZIP code

In some situations the only way to charge the correct tax on a sale is to look at the purchasers ZIP code. Taxes can vary per state, city and ZIP. It would be great to have the option to control it at that level.

                  Hello,

We are currently in the middle of implementing several customization points. One of those is a “Tax Service” which should be used as a bridge between tax calculation in Kentico and external system or custom logic.

This Tax service is a single point of customization, so it should be easy to extend with a custom logic like taxing per ZIP.

It’s a code block with an input and output where the input is:
                  - SKU
                  - Quantity
                  - Price
                  - Customer
                  - Currency
                  - Date
                  - Shipping address
                  - Billing address
                  and output:
                  - calculated tax

With this new Tax Service should be easy to implement this functionality as customization as the ZIP is available in the address object.

What do you think about it? I’m sorry if it’s too technical, old habits.

                  thank you

                  Kind Regards
                  Michal Kadak

                • Allow Javascript Files from the CMSSiteManager -> Development -> Javascript Files to be Content Staged

Right now there are no staging tasks logged when you edit a Javascript file in CMSSiteManager in Kentico 7. It would sure be nice to content stage these files just like the rest of the objects in CMSSiteManager.

                  • Use the HTML5 placeholder attribute for watermark text across all webparts/controls

The HTML5 placeholder attribute is well supported in modern browsers and easy to polyfill for older browsers.

I would suggest that a polyfill should be implemented by the website developers rather than Kentico.

                    • Provide better tag managment

Given how tags are an important part of content strategy these days, Kentico CMS needs a better way to centrally manage tags so they can be easily updated, deleted, and added to documents, images, and files. The system does list all the tags and provides a way to see all the documents with a given tag, but there is no edit capability.

The API does provide a way to manage the tags, but a nice UI is needed for administrators.

                      • Add support for Canonical Link Element

In addition to "Redirect document aliases to main URL," (formerly a web.config appSettings directive), I'd like to see an option for "Use Canonical Link Element."

With that option, the URL alias would be honored and persist in the address bar, but an indication of the actual URL would be made as a canonical link element in the <head>:

                        <link rel="canonical" href=" http://www.example.com/Actual-Url "/>

                          Hello!

We are currently exploring the possibility to cover this idea. There are few questions related to Canonical links I’d like to ask:

Do you prefer this feature to automatically cover most used scenarios (such as redirections) or do you prefer manual control of Canonical links?

                          Automatically:

If automatically, what would be the top required scenarios for your projects?

Is the primary concern the variant of the URL (like http vs https, trailing slash vs non-trailing slash?

How do you want to specify the format of the canonical link globally?

                          Manually:

If manually, then do you consider the Content editor to specify the canonical link using a selector or URL manually?

Is the primary concern a page alias created for a page?

                          Both:

Is it ok just to handle links within a single site or there is also a need for links to external sites?

                          Is the scenario covered by…

                        • Rollback option for staging

Allow me to rollback of objects which were staged in a staging task

                          • A Few SEO Options

A few seo options that would be nice to have.

                            1. When adding a link to an external site, tick box to add the rel="nofollow" tag.

                            2. Canonical link element. Build the canonical link element settings into the CMS

                            3. Add a tick box option in the document properties - metadata options page to set the following tag: <meta name="robots" content="noindex" />

                            4. Add function so you can manage the robots.txt file direct from the CMS. For multiple site installs could some form of rewriter work to allow a separate robots.txt for each site

                            • Automatically add semantics

Allow built in semantics (RDF, Open Graph) for documents, which can be configured easily. So for example a "product" document would automatically output semantic meta data (name, descriptions, photo, price, promotion, localisation information etc) without the CMS editor needing to fill in extra fields. Smart search could also use the meta data to help prioritise the search results. Perhaps there could be a choice in compliance too; facebook open graph, twitter cards, standard open graph etc. Semantics are becoming increasingly important for Web apps and e-commerce - it would be great to see it easily achievable in Kentico without the…

                              • Preview pages in CMSDesk as "not authenticated" or as a selected other role.

With permissions, security or web part settings some pages can look different to different users. When logged in as Administrator, If you want to view a page and see what it looks like to people that haven't logged in, you can't unless you log out. Logging out logs you out of CMSDesk too, so you have to log back in again to make an amend.

Also you can't easily confirm "edit", "delete", "add new" buttons are only showing to the right users because Global Administrator sees everything all the time.

I would like to have view options in the preview…

                                    • Add area at the bottom of Master page

                                      Hello

On a Master page (portal site) we would like to add some JS to the bottom on different pages. It would be really useful to have a field/area/zone that could be used. So that we could put anything we want and this area would put what we wanted just before the closing HTML Body tag.

                                      Thanks

                                      Ilesh Mistry

                                      • Neutral cultures and a default fallback culture

Currently you have only one default culture available in Kentico. This option isn't usually sufficient for global web portals, containing content for multiple different languages. Here is the scenario. Let’s have the neutral cultures DE (German), English (EN) and Spanish (ES). Now, these languages can have country (region) specific translations:
                                        Neutral language EN:
                                        EN-US
                                        EN-UK
                                        EN-AU
                                        Neutral language DE:
                                        DE-DE
                                        DE-AT
                                        DE-LU
                                        Neutral language ES:
                                        ES-AR
                                        ES-CO
                                        ES-CR
If you now create some content section, which looks like this, with the content translated into languages in the brackets:

                                        News folder
                                        -News1 (de-de, en-uk)
                                        -News2 (de-lu, es-ar)
                                        -News3 (de-de, de-at, en-us) …

                                        • Integrate Newsletter subscription with Biz Forms

It would be great if we could integrate into a Biz Form a check box that a user checks to indicate that they want to receive the site newsletter.

This means a user filling in a for can subscribe in the one place instead of then having to go and subscribe to the Newsletter separately.

                                          Thanks

                                            Hello!

In order to inspect this suggestion further, could you share few comments?

What is the most common scenario? A simple check box with a predefined specific newsletter?

Should the subscription be avilable only after the complete form is filled and sent?

What do you think of the currently available solution – creating a Marketing Automation process, which is triggered by a form submission, can check if a specific checkbox is checked and based on this subscribes the contact to a newsletter?

                                            Thanks!
