Simply share your ideas, comment on the ideas of others and vote for those you want to see happen in Kentico.

If you could add something to Kentico, what would it be and why?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Whitelist IP's through CMSSiteManager

Ability to Whitelist IPs for CMSDesk/CMSSiteManager access.  Possibly even extend Whitelist to User Roles.

  2. Order notifications recipients by order status and general structure.

Currently Kentico only has a single option to send order status notifications which sends the notifications to both store admins and customers.

I'd like to see this split so that customers do not necessarily need to get notifications for internal changes.

Whilst making this change I would also like to see the ability to set recipients based on Order Status, such that if an Order is in 'Payment failed' a notification can be sent to accounts, whilst an order that is 'Payment Accepted' can go to order fulfilment. This could be implemented as a Recipients field in the order status…

  3. Add a path selector for Media Libraries

When creating web parts that rely on the Media Library content, it would be helpful to have a Media Library path selector control, instead of manually typing in the path, which can be problematic.

  4. media library search deeper

We need the ability to search the entire media library and its sub-folder. For example i want to search an image by filename or title, and i have a sub-folders the query should penetrate inside that sub-folders.

  5. Allow "content only" pages to be converted to standard pages and vice versa

During development we made a decision to create certain page types as "Content Only" pages.

Unfortunately, later in development a decision was made to include a detail pages for these page types and therefore they need to be changed to standard page types.

Please add the ability to convert between the two types, otherwise the "risk/reward" balance means there is little point in using "content only" page types.

  6. Support ZURB's Foundation Front End Framework

ZURB's Foundation front end framework is in the same class as Twitter Bootstrap and makes it easier for developers to prototype and implement mobile first designs that work cross platform.

Currently the Kentico CSS and Foundation clash making editing in CMSDesk or in-page editing impossible (see here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17055672/using-zurb-foundation-in-kentico-cms-portal-engine).

It would be great if this were not the case as deliverables from outside agencies or existing migration products may be based on this popular framework.

  7. Ability to seperate email based on type to different SMTP servers

Sending all mail generated from Kentico through the same (set of) SMTP server(s) is a bad idea. Why? If marketing emails result in service being throttled by the SMTP service (it happens), it also slows down delivery of transactional email.

Perhaps this could be set up to send to different sub-domains e.g. mktg.example.com & store.example.com.

Or email templates have a tag that is used for determining which service they get forward to.

Either way, this can help to seperate not only issues when they arise, but also reporting etc.

If Kentico is serious about email marketing, I think this is…

  8. Add a culture setting for pre-computing week analytics data

Currently the web analytics of Kentico use the en-US culture to store week analytics data. Which means a week starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday by default.

If a customer uses a different culture such as nl-NL, the graph period selector uses the international standard of Monday as the start day and Sunday as the last day of the week.

Selecting this will however result in a period of 2 weeks, since the weeks are rounded, which can be very confusing for the customer.

Preferably there would be an option to select the culture in which the week analytics…

  9. Using direct uploader form control in forms

Enable usage of direct uploader form control in forms and not only page types - it can be usable to prevent lose the selected file when page has postback.

  10. Provide analytics on form autoresponder emails

When someone fills out a form and an autoresponder is sent, we have no visibility into open rates, click rates, unsubscribes, etc. In a recent campaign, we were unable to provide relevant stats to our client. Email autoresponders consistently show the highest engagement rates of any email campaigns. Tracking the results of these autoresponders is a must-have! Thanks - Eric

  11. OpenID Connect Support

While Kentico does support OpenID, "OpenID Connect" performs many of the same tasks but does so in a way that is standardized and API-friendly.

We have centralized authentication across numerous sites (both internal and external) using OpenID Connect and our Kentico site is the one lone holdout due to lack of support.

  12. Allow multiple category selection in listing and datasource webparts

When using a repeater webpart for instance you can only select 1 category. Same is true if you use a documents datasource or a hierarchical viewer webpart. The API allows you to pass in multiple categories when doing a document or object query but we do not have this same ability to do so with any of the out of the box controls.

I come across this use case in roughly every other site build. Unfortunately, it isn't available so we end up performing a no-so-fantastic work around by using the API to get what is needed vs. using OOTB…

  13. Remove Default Bootstrap Classes

When using many of Kentico's default controls (CMSButton, CMSTextBox etc), standard CSS classes are being added by default (btn, form-control etc).

What I'd like to see is some way of overriding this because the front end we make for our websites is created before the Kentico site is made. Therefore we often have to override the CSS styles that have been set when the bootstrap classes outputted by Kentico conflict with the styles we have front ended. For example, a page might not have been front ended with a "btn" class on a button, but when Kentico adds it, it…

  14. Create culture aliases with slash (/) e.g. ca/fr (French - Canada)

I would like the ability to add culture aliases to be used as the prefix for the URL with a slash in the alias. The format would be CountryCode/LanguageCode. Currently the system allows you to save the culture alias in that format but visiting the URL will produce a 404 error.

  15. Translate Widgets in MVC

According to documentation "Note: Text added and displayed on MVC pages through page builder widgets is not processed by translation services." This will become an issue for a majority of our clients that prefer the widget approach to the CMS administration.

Kentico should seriously consider adding this feature if they want current and potential clients to embrace your MVC solution. We will not be able to recommend Kentico MVC for clients that require integration with translation services until this addressed.

  16. Show name of the sender instead of email address when sending email via API

It would be great if there would be a possibility to show name of the sender in the FromEmail field when sending emails via API.

  17. create more realistic usable booking system

Booking should not be tied only to a calendar. If you have just couple of events the calendar is worthless – you need a list of bookable events grouped by locations or months. Having a booking system is a great idea but it needs to be more usable in real world.

  18. Can we get a Microsoft Edge specific body class instread of the 'Chrome' and 'Safari' classes?

    Hi Kentico,

On https://docs.kentico.com/k10/developing-websites/designing-websites-using-css there is a table with the body classes that are generated based on the browser the client is viewing the project in.

Can you explain why the Microsoft Edge browser and the Google Chrome browser bot get the Chrome and Safari body class. Why isn't a Microsoft Edge specific class generated and is this maybe something you can add in the near future? It would be great to have a 'Edge' class or something like that.

    Best regards,
    Sander Bras

  19. Replace outdated authentication approach with OWIN & Asp.Net Identity

Leverage ASP.Net identity and OWIN to futureproof Kentico for .Net 5. Approach / Benefits:

    OWIN

    - Replace the Kentico bootstrapping process with an OWIN pipeline.
    - Register Kentico modules via OWIN pipeline, for example the URL Rewriting engine and Kentico’s own Web API implementation.
    - Follows “API-first” ideology.
    - Provides developers with a great deal of control over the pipeline and intercepting requests via custom middleware.
    - Can support backwards compatibility via custom middleware to keep existing features available (like RequestEvents).

    ASP.Net Identity

    - Replace the standard WebForms authentication with Identity cookie uthentication: http://brockallen.com/2013/10/24/a-primer-on-owin-cookie-authentication-middleware-for-the-asp-net-developer/
    - Standardised framework.
    - Free wins…

  20. Ability to customize facebook og and twitter card metadata within the existing Metadata section of the Properties tab

There is already a functioning area to hold and edit metadata information with good inheritance rules. Can the functionality be expanded to include metadata for common social networks such as facebook and twitter? This is a widely requested feature by clients and the Metadata section in the Properties tab seems like a natural fit.
