  1. Migrate documents from one document type to another

It would be great to be able to migrate documents from one document type to another in CMS Desk (without using the SQL Import tool). This is especially useful when upgrading/overhauling/rearchitecting older Kentico websites.

  2. Provide 'where used' and link checking functionality

For users it is extremely hard to keep track of links, pages and images.
Especially when the content tree or medialibrary needs to be restructured.

I know there is already funtionality which creates aliasses automatically, but in the end that is not a real solution.

So it would be great if you could see where a specific document or medialibrary-item is used.
This could be done by analyzing the html which comes from the fckeditor.

It would also be great if some kind of periodically link checking would be done, so the users get notified if there are any broken…

  3. Select which culture of a document to sync

On multi-cultural sites, almost all of the time you only want to stage / sync one culture version of a document to the live site.

Currently this is not possible, and all culture versions of the document are staged across.

I would like to see either:

    a) each culture change shown as a separate staging item in the queue
    b) ability to define which cultures to stage when performing a sync
    c) or both?

    Open to suggestions on implementation.

  4. Create "pre-configured web parts"

It would be nice to have an area of the CMSDesk where we could create "pre-configured" web parts. I find that I need to show the same data on multiple pages... and I have to configure the same web part multiple times.

Page inheritance does not always work. Nor does cloning a web part and setting default values (as suggested in the documentation).

Let me explain: I have a web part being used in 15 different page templates. I needed to change the OrderBy value and had to do so for all 15 web parts individually.

    It would be nice…

  5. Infinite scrolling

Instead of a ordinary pager, provide an option to asynchronously load more items when a user scrolls to the bottom of the page - aka. infitine scrolling. I would also like an option to limit how many times it should load the data(make it finite). It would be also helpful If the URL address changes during the async load(HTML5 History API), so a I can send the address to somebody and he/she views the same content as I.

  6. Exporting a part of the tree

It would be great to export a sub set of the tree.
As an example export the documents from "~/e-commerce/shoppingcartsteps/%"

This way you can easily create an export containing the shoppingcart templates and the documents, so you don't have to create those documents by hand.

Would make releases easier in my opinion.

    Best regards!

  7. Get files url with native extensions (image.jpg and not image.aspx)

We need to be able to get the files url with native extensions example ****/image.jpg and not .aspx.
we need this to be used with third party sites, for example we are not able to share an image using Facebook as it sees it as a webpage and not an image, so it doesn't generate preview for it.
In the other hand we are facing the same issue with a 3rd party pdf viewer that we are using.

So allowing the developer to access the url with the native extension will be a great help.

    thank you

  8. Use the HTML5 placeholder attribute for watermark text across all webparts/controls

The HTML5 placeholder attribute is well supported in modern browsers and easy to polyfill for older browsers.

I would suggest that a polyfill should be implemented by the website developers rather than Kentico.

  9. Provide better tag managment

Given how tags are an important part of content strategy these days, Kentico CMS needs a better way to centrally manage tags so they can be easily updated, deleted, and added to documents, images, and files. The system does list all the tags and provides a way to see all the documents with a given tag, but there is no edit capability.

The API does provide a way to manage the tags, but a nice UI is needed for administrators.

  10. Automatically add semantics

Allow built in semantics (RDF, Open Graph) for documents, which can be configured easily. So for example a "product" document would automatically output semantic meta data (name, descriptions, photo, price, promotion, localisation information etc) without the CMS editor needing to fill in extra fields. Smart search could also use the meta data to help prioritise the search results. Perhaps there could be a choice in compliance too; facebook open graph, twitter cards, standard open graph etc. Semantics are becoming increasingly important for Web apps and e-commerce - it would be great to see it easily achievable in Kentico without the…

  11. Site wide preview function that takes account of the date

The existing preview function shows a page as it will appear when scheduled content goes live. As such it takes no real account of the system calendar.
The idea therefore is to allow the user to alter a calendar offset, such that he or she can see the site as it will appear at some future date. The user would be able to role the calendar forwards to view scheduled changes as time elapses over a period in the future.
The essential difference between this and the preview mode is that it would show the various phases, so for example…

  12. A Few SEO Options

A few seo options that would be nice to have.

    1. When adding a link to an external site, tick box to add the rel="nofollow" tag.

    2. Canonical link element. Build the canonical link element settings into the CMS

    3. Add a tick box option in the document properties - metadata options page to set the following tag: <meta name="robots" content="noindex" />

    4. Add function so you can manage the robots.txt file direct from the CMS. For multiple site installs could some form of rewriter work to allow a separate robots.txt for each site

  13. Add support for Canonical Link Element

In addition to "Redirect document aliases to main URL," (formerly a web.config appSettings directive), I'd like to see an option for "Use Canonical Link Element."

With that option, the URL alias would be honored and persist in the address bar, but an indication of the actual URL would be made as a canonical link element in the <head>:

    <link rel="canonical" href=" http://www.example.com/Actual-Url "/>

  14. Allow using Kentico 12 in a mixed MVC and Portal Engine site

Kentico is now moving forward in technology with the new MVC model which is highly appreciated. They also encourage everyone to migrate to the new model announcing an end of support for Portal engine with 2022.

What is stopping us and many customer projects at the moment is:

1.) You cannot create a mixed MVC AND Portal Engine site currently. You also cannot migrate an existing Portal Engine site of a customer to MVC or mixed.

2.) A lot of features which are widely used are not yet available for MVC sites (Existing webparts, widgets, many/all of the social features…

  15. HTML Minified

Now only CSS and JavaScript files can control to minified.

Kentico Should add one more feature so that the hrml also can be minified.

    Thanks.

  16. Add "reset to default" button to widget properties pop-up

When setting default values to widget properties that are hidden, there is no way to reset the property value if the widget default values are changed.

For example, when adding 10 instances of a widget, they will have the hidden field values set as defined in the widget properties.
If the default values are then changed, all 10 instances of the widget need to be removed and re-added to the pages.

By introducing a "reset to default" button, the hidden field values (or all field values) could be "refreshed", without the need to re-add the widget.

  17. Have a setting to require content editors to enter alternate text for all images.

All images on a site should have their alternate text property set for accessibility reasons. There should be a setting that requires editors to set the alternate text property for all images.

  18. Search the entire Media Library and all sub-folders

Is there a way to do a Global search in Media Library?
I.e. when at the root folder, do a search that will find all the images in all subfolders?
e.g. If I want to find all the "achill" images that are in the Media Library and I go to the root folder and search for "achill" -> no images are found
I need to search each folder individually, so if I go to the sub-folder and search for "achill" => I find all the "achill" images in the folder
Searching the entire Media Library and all subfolders

  19. Rewrite web parts and widgets with responsive design in mind

Many of the standard web parts that require width and height entries only accept fixed pixel entries (eg. image and text web parts, Google maps, etc.). It would be great if one could enter percentages as well.

  20. Preview pages in CMSDesk as "not authenticated" or as a selected other role.

With permissions, security or web part settings some pages can look different to different users. When logged in as Administrator, If you want to view a page and see what it looks like to people that haven't logged in, you can't unless you log out. Logging out logs you out of CMSDesk too, so you have to log back in again to make an amend.

Also you can't easily confirm "edit", "delete", "add new" buttons are only showing to the right users because Global Administrator sees everything all the time.

I would like to have view options in the preview…
