Help us better understand your needs so that we can deliver a product you love. It’s easy!
Simply share your ideas, comment on the ideas of others and vote for those you want to see happen in Kentico.

If you could add something to Kentico, what would it be and why?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. Allow multiple category selection in listing and datasource webparts

When using a repeater webpart for instance you can only select 1 category. Same is true if you use a documents datasource or a hierarchical viewer webpart. The API allows you to pass in multiple categories when doing a document or object query but we do not have this same ability to do so with any of the out of the box controls.

I come across this use case in roughly every other site build. Unfortunately, it isn't available so we end up performing a no-so-fantastic work around by using the API to get what is needed vs. using OOTB…

  2. Search the entire Media Library and all sub-folders

Is there a way to do a Global search in Media Library?
I.e. when at the root folder, do a search that will find all the images in all subfolders?
e.g. If I want to find all the "achill" images that are in the Media Library and I go to the root folder and search for "achill" -> no images are found
I need to search each folder individually, so if I go to the sub-folder and search for "achill" => I find all the "achill" images in the folder
Searching the entire Media Library and all subfolders

  3. Create culture aliases with slash (/) e.g. ca/fr (French - Canada)

I would like the ability to add culture aliases to be used as the prefix for the URL with a slash in the alias. The format would be CountryCode/LanguageCode. Currently the system allows you to save the culture alias in that format but visiting the URL will produce a 404 error.

  5. Add "reset to default" button to widget properties pop-up

When setting default values to widget properties that are hidden, there is no way to reset the property value if the widget default values are changed.

For example, when adding 10 instances of a widget, they will have the hidden field values set as defined in the widget properties.
If the default values are then changed, all 10 instances of the widget need to be removed and re-added to the pages.

By introducing a "reset to default" button, the hidden field values (or all field values) could be "refreshed", without the need to re-add the widget.

  6. Can we get a Microsoft Edge specific body class instread of the 'Chrome' and 'Safari' classes?

    Hi Kentico,

On https://docs.kentico.com/k10/developing-websites/designing-websites-using-css there is a table with the body classes that are generated based on the browser the client is viewing the project in.

Can you explain why the Microsoft Edge browser and the Google Chrome browser bot get the Chrome and Safari body class. Why isn't a Microsoft Edge specific class generated and is this maybe something you can add in the near future? It would be great to have a 'Edge' class or something like that.

    Best regards,
    Sander Bras

  7. Responsive Images Attachment GUID Selector

In K10 we started with responsive images. Kentico uses Attachment Variants to get this working.

I would like to have a media selector, which returns the attachment GUID. Currently only the attachment URL is selected.
But I need the GUID for almost every attachment helper method in the CMS code.

It would be very cool to have an attachment selector, where the user could upload a new file as cms.file (content) or as document attachment (attachment) but not to the media library.
The selector stores the GUID, so we could get all attachments (with variants) to create our responsive images…

  9. Media gallery list view option (rather than folder tree)

Right now, the only way to navigate through folders in a Media Gallery web part is to show the folder tree and have users navigate with the tree.

It would be nice to have an alternate "list view" option where folders and files are listed like they are in Windows Explorer, SharePoint, and other file management tools. In other words, folders and files all appear in a single list, and users can simply click the folder name to navigate down a level.

  10. Bulk upload of files into content tree

We had a client who wanted to assign per-file and per-folder permissions in their site. Initially we tried to use media galleries, but permissions on those can only be assigned at the gallery (root folder) level.

As a work-around, we looked at using the content tree, but the inability to upload files in bulk was a deal breaker there. We ended up solving the problem by using multiple media libraries and just organizing the documents in a way where we could assign permissions by library.

It would be great if you guys could allow files to be bulk-uploaded to the…

  11. Multi-site media libraries with CDN

Allow Kentico media libraries to be used cross-site with a CDN. If all sites on an installation use the same CDN it would be great to be able to use assets from other sites without having the domain prepended to the URL.

  13. Better page selection when using translation functionality

The current single path selector in the translation app leaves much to be desired. You have to create two exports to do a section of the site (one for the parent page, and then one for its children).

Adding the ability to select a node and its children, or specify multiple paths, or even choose multiple ad-hoc pages would make it less cumbersome.

  14. Persist widget based content personalization when copying the page, or creating a new cultured version

Widget based content personalization should be persisted when you copy a page, or create a new culture version and opt to copy for an existing version, or when using the translate functionality. Currently we have to do a lot of manual work to recreate the content personalization across all the languages our site supports.

  15. Page stylesheet url to include cache breaking string

Stylesheets are usually cached in browsers, so users either need to clear the cache or wait till the cache expires for any change in css to be reflected. Ideal way to approach this would be to have a cache breaking querystring (like last modified date or latest version number) to stylesheet link that kentico adds to the header, so whenever we update the stylesheet it reflects immediately for a user.

  16. Copied pages should initially be in edit state

Copying a published document should not make the copied version publish, as you should be able to decide whether that copy should be published or not.

At the moment that document becomes published by default, there should be a way for this not to be done automatically.

It should go to a draft state, therefore unpublished if using workflow.

  17. When setting security on pages it would be better to be able to select multiple users/roles and change permissions for those selected.

When setting security on pages it would be so much better to be able to select multiple users/roles and change permissions for those selected as it is in many other systems. This alone would make me reconsider a product.
As we have lots of roles for security control on our intranet currently we have to set page permissions one by one, this is very time consuming and laborious.
    Thanks,
    Andy

  18. Add scrollWheel property to Google Maps (and more if possible)

The current Google Maps webpart does its thing, but does not include all the possible options you set onto a google-map.
Most of the options currently available are the options you'll generally use, but it is missing one. An that is a very important one imo, and that option is: scrollWheel.

The scrollWheel option allow you to enable/disable zooming with the scrollwheel of your mouse. This is a boolean and defaults to true.
Nowadays, it is more common to have map element on a page that is so big that it can span the entire page. If you, in such…

  19. Wrap checkbox/radio input and label inside HTML element to control line-break issues

Creating a Kentico form with a checkbox/radio button list with the "Repeat direction:" set to horizontal renders a series of checkbox/radio form controls and labels with no <br> tags. However, because there is no HTMl element that groups each control/label pair, the label will drop to a new line while the checkbox stays.

By wrapping control/label pair inside an HTML element, such as span (even with no CSS class applied), gives us the ability to control this line-break issue with CSS.

Current output example (stripping all id, values and for attributes):

    <span iclass="radio radio-list-horizontal">
    <input type="radio" value="Phone"><label>Phone</label>
    <input type="radio" value="Email"><label>Email</label> …

  20. A method to get the URL of media file thumbnails in given sizes

On the MediaFileInfoProvider or MediaFileHelper there should be a method to get the URL for a resized thumbnail of a given media file.

This method should take the normal maxSideSize, width and height parameters and return a URL to the relevant thumbnail (ensuring it is created if it doesn't exist) on whatever storage system the site is using.

If the site is using a CDN then the URL returned should be on that CDN's endpoint.
